Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She graduated with an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. She was a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was made general correspondent by NBC News two year later. Beginning in 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988 she was named chief congressional reporter. Mitchell was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both an anchor and a panelist on the TV news show Meet the Press. She was part of the panel at 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell covered a range of notable stories, including arms control the budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal and was frequently along with the president Reagan to summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
